Complimentary Sports Upgrade - No Catch!

I have SS1 but none of the other sports channels. Got a letter from Sky today telling me that I can now receive SS1-SS4 in HD until 15th October without paying a penny extra. What really surprises me is that I don't have to cancel it when the offer finishes - it's not their usual 'opt in' offer, where you get charged for a month when you forget to cancel.

Still looking for the catch but can't find it...!

Re: Complimentary Sports Upgrade - No Catch!

Sky probably see such customers as vulnerable to defection to cheaper deals with BT or Virgin as only having limited Sports channels they would not be losing a lot of viewing if they go elsewhere (where only Sky Sports 1 or 2 are options).

So over the next few critical months when these people might be tempted by offers to go elsewhere it probably pays Sky to give them all Sky Sports and then hope they will realise what they would miss by moving elsewhere for a superficially cheaper deal.

So when the offer is up you will just revert back to Sky Sports One ? Seems odd as you usually have to cancel, I would keep an eye on what happens on 16 October.

I will! But the letter clearly says "Remember, your free upgrade won't cost you a penny more. And if you want to return to your usual Sky TV channels after the 3 months, you don't have to contact us as this will happen automatically."

nah mate, doubt thats true, there is no way that we can automatically downgrade, system doesnt allow for this at all, fone up 31 days before the end of the free trial to be on the safe side and give 31 days notice.

who knows, maybe it is true, but ive never seen this happening.

Your package isn't upgraded on this. You remain on Sports 1 or 2 as far as the billing is concerned. This offer is only on the viewing card, which will be able to decode the other sports channels until 15th October.

There is no need to call to change anything, unless you want to keep all the sports channels after it ends.

This offer is available to anyone taking just Sports 1 or 2 during the offer period.

Doubt it as you don't have to do anything to get it, they just activated all 4 sports channels (SD and HD) on the 15th.

It's clearly tied in with the endless Cantona ads for the Sports pack. They can't beat BT on price so are trying quantity instead - not that I would touch BT with the proverbial barge pole for internet or TV, their pricing is worse than Sky in terms of inertia selling (advertise low rate for 3 months or tie you into dodgy 12 month deals)

Enjoyed watching Indy Cars on SS4 on Sunday (haven't seen it for ages as it never gets near SS1).
