      from the golf channel
      Hi

I can confirm that The Golf Channel UK will cease broadcasting today.

After 4 very happy years we had to take the commercial decision based upon a number of factors.

      1) Cost of "good" quality programming. Yes we could have got cheaper programming but not without denigrating the viewer experience

      2) Lack of availability of good programming and rights.

      3) The commercial revenues that were projected over the coming years.

I'd like to thank all those viewers who have supported the channel since 2003 I believe we created a great channel with programmes that golfers wanted to watch. We also managed to cater for a wide range of golf tastes so if a particular show wasn't for you another certainly would be just right.

The Shopping channel continues as does the US version of the Golf Channel.

Best Wishes & we'd all like to wish you a happy New Year for 2008!

      Re: The Golf Channel

I was also surprised & angry to find it gone yesterday. How am i going to lower my handicap without my regular late night instruction?

It was one of the reasons I liked sky. We have now lost the US golf tourmaments & the Golf channel. Seriously thinking of ditching Sky when my broardband year is up in February.

      A very disappointed Sky subscriber,

      Regards,

      Max

The Golf Channel was not encoded, encrypted or uplinked by Sky. In fact it was free to air so not even part of a sky package. Its one of the hundreds of channels which Sky don't provide themselves. Hardly Skys fault they decided to shut down now is it?

      @Proppinupthebar,

Very fair point, but it is the day after New Years Eve. After much drink, a little rant is allowed

      Happy New Year to all,

      Regards,

      Max.

      Re: The Golf Channel

Hi - can we access the US version of The Golf Cannel and, if so, how?
Sorry if this is a basic question but I have only had Sky for 2 weeks and am still on the learning curve. Many thanks.

      Re: The Golf Channel

Use your SKY remote control, pointing it at your Digibox, to carry out the following stages.

      1. Press the green SERVICES button

      2. Press the number 4 button (SYSTEM SETUP)

      3. Press the number 4 button again (ADD CHANNELS)

      5. You will see a grid something like this with the default entries as shown-

      Frequency (GHz) 11.778
      Polarisation V
      Symbol Rate (Mbaud) 27.5
      FEC 2/3
      Find Channels

      6. For the free extra channels available you need to enter the appropriate numbers or change the entries as shown in the grid above.

The top line will already be highlighted in yellow, simply type the numbers
      11.389

Use the green down-arrow to move to the next line - now move either L or R green arrow to change V to H.

Move down to next line and use the L or R green arrow to change 27.5

Again, move down and use the L or R green arrow to change to 2/3

Move down to the next line 'Find Channels', press your SELECT button and wait a few moments.

      7. A list of available channels will be displayed and you simply follow the onscreen instructions - press the yellow key, move down, yellow key again, move down, etc. until all the channels (you will recognise at least some of the names) are marked with a 'tick'.

Now press your SELECT button to save the channels.

Might not last too much longer but add it while you can.
