Sky + second hand help !

      Afternoon all,

Iím brand new here .... hi !

Iíve just move into a rented property which has previously had sky installed. Due to me being totally skint as I now have an ex wife to pay for I thought Iíd just get myself a Sky + box, plug it and and watch the free stuff (I do have a digital antenna but itís simply awful). Anyway, I get hold of a second hand box (which Iíve seen working), plug it all in and.... nowt !

error 25 - your sky HD box isnít getting a satellite signal.

Ive switched it on and off numerous times, removed the cables etc but still nothing.

Would it matter if the previous tenant had Sky Q maybe?

anyway, Iím stumped so Iím hoping and praying that someone on here will feel sorry for my and help me out!

      thanks in advance.

It could be, as you say, that the previous tenant had Sky Q which uses a different LNB to that required for the older Sky boxes including Sky+ and Sky+ HD. The full band LNB used with Sky Q has only 2 sockets compared to the hybrid LNB with 6 sockets (which works with Sky Q or Sky+) or the 4 socket (quad) LNB that had been the standard LNB for many years prior to the introduction of Sky Q.

If you do replace the LNB with a quad LNB be careful not to disturb the dish as positioning is critical and also note the squint angle (degrees off vertical) of the old LNB and set the new LNB to the same angle.
