      Sky Box after contract ends

      Hi. I have just cancelled my Sky TV but kept the fibre and phone.

      I got a letter from Sky stating that it will not switch off my Sky HD+ box and that I may continue to use it for over 240 Free to air channels. I checked yesterday and I can use the box for free to air channels. I get the EPG, pause live tv, rewind TV, some HD channels and record. I can even still download programs via the catch up service. In other words the box works just as before but the "pay for" channels are missing.

      Is this normal? I thought Sky turned off the box. I have just bought a Freesat box from JL and am considering sending it back if I can use the Sky HD+.

      There is a thirty one day notice period starting from the day you cancelled. The pause and record functions will cease to work once the notice period has expired.

      Hi Seawright

      I gave the notice to Sky 5 weeks ago and the "Sky channels" stopped on 28th Sept. My bill to Sky from that date is just line rental, fibre and anytime calls.

      Are you still able to use BBC IPlayer either via On Demand or using the Red Button menu on a BBC channel?

      Can you check your Sky package using either the interactive function on the Sky remote control or "My Sky" on the Sky website to see if there is still a Sky+ subscription on your account. This normally costs 10 per month without a Sky TV viewing package but for broadband and talk customers it has been known for a 10 off line rental for six months offer to be applied to offset this cost.

      The letter sent by Sky is titled "Keep the Sky+ features you love, and enjoy free Sky Broadband Unlimited for 12 months" and later on it says "All you need to do is keep paying 17.40 for your line rental for the next 12 months".

      I did try the Sky catch up and the BBC program I tried was down loaded to the hard drive.

      Looks like you've been given a retention deal. I guess the Freesat box will be going back unless you want to use it with a TV in another room.
