Re: Sky+ App Photos
A thought and a further question for seawright
Is there a syntax which permits a local image file to be specified in the URL in place of the Skyuser jpg shown in your example ?
I have tried a number of different ones but without success

Re: Sky+ App Photos
Vanilla image ??... Sorry that mean nothing to me.
However, I take it that it means one cannot send a local image to a TV in this way and that it can only be done by uploading the image to a web host. Is that correct ?
Just thought it might be fun the suddenly send an image to the TV when my wife was watching a program. However, I would wish to choose the image myself, not send the one in the example.

Re: Sky+ App Photos
Definition:
In IT, vanilla (pronounced vah-NIHL-uh ) is an adjective meaning plain or basic. The unfeatured version of a product is sometimes referred to as the vanilla version. The term is based on the fact that vanilla is the most popular or at least the most commonly served flavour of ice cream.
In this context, a vanilla image is what you have taken on your phone/tablet/camera.
What the sky box needs is a converted 'vanilla image' that the box can interpret.
Any image you send to it, without the conversion step (ie using the app) are unlikely to work.Last edited by lettice; 25-02-15 at 05:53 PM.

Re: Sky+ App Photos
A local image file would still have to be sent by HTTP so would require a local webserver. I believe windows installation media (DVD) contains IIS (Internet Information Server) though not sure whether it is included in all versions.
Failing that you could always install a personal web-server. I have found Abyss very easy to set-up but there are others.
I did have problems finding a suitable image, some just produced a blue screen and others were completely ignored.
I know that the size is important, 1280 x 720 pixels, hence the black bars down the side of my test image.
I don't know whether any other criteria need to be met. I will have to investigate further.

Re: Sky+ App Photos
I don't think that the Sky+ app does anything special to the images.
To test this I took a PNG file albeit with the correct dimensions and used an online image converter Image converter to JPG to produce a JPEG image which appeared on the TV screen when served to my Sky+ HD box using a local webserver.
