Sky+HD boxes cache the epg on the hard drive to speed up the TVGuide and allow the use of Mini TV while recording.

Without a drive the box will need to tune to the default transponder each time you go into the TVGuide in order to download the full 7day TVGuide.

The next 12hrs of epg data is broadcast on all transponders.
OH sorry, yes it is that and oh never knew, how do people manage to actually sell these things as freesat when all you want to do is smash it cause it's so slow.

As explained, it will not be so slow if it has a HDD installed, as it should have.

So the box is pretty much scrap, cause I'm not spending stupid amount of money just for a hard drive for something I'd hardly use lol

      Re: SkyHd slow?

If you don't have a Sky subscription the box is not much good to you as you can't make full use of the HDD anyway. Probably your best bet is to sell it and buy a freesat or freeview box.
