Sky multiroom and telephone line connections
I have had Sky multiroom for over 5 years. There is no phone socket near the second box so when we got it installed I bought some homeplugs and they worked fine. Now for some reason they seem to have packed in (red light). if I do a test on the box it still says telephone line connected but if I try to use the line to access my account I get an error message. My question is do i need to buy new homeplugs (running an extension cable is not an option) or are Sky no longer likely to check up on me after so long as a multiroom customer?

Contact sky and advise them that your box is no longer calling back and they will exempt it from the need for it to be connected. They are no longer booking service calls for multiscreen boxes that stop calling back.

Re: Sky multiroom and telephone line connections
If it is reporting that it is connected and its not, it is probably the modem which has developed a fault or there is a glitch in the software. You could try doing a forced software update and see if that cures it.
Have you tried connecting a phone to the homeplug to see if it is working. You might have to change the mode from modem/data to voice.

Re: Sky multiroom and telephone line connections
To be honest I didn't think of testing it with a phone, I just assumed it was the homeplug that was faulty, never thought it could be the modem. I'll give it a try. I've just taken advantage of the free router offer because I still had one of the old ones, maybe if I'm lucky they might get round to replacing the white Sky+ boxes!

Re: Sky multiroom and telephone line connections
You say youve connected with homeplugs? They are usually for internet connections, not phone. Are you getting confused between the ethernet connection on your sky box and the modem / phone line connection on your sky box?
Can you watch on demand programs on the box or download them? If you can and the box isnt a wifi one then the homeplugs are fine.

Re: Sky multiroom and telephone line connections
There are homeplugs suitable for the phone, they are usually called 'wireless telephone jacks'.
It looks like your plugs may have died. Try switching from data to voice then back again. If that does not help unplug them for about an hour then plug in again.
I don't think it matters how long you have multi room, Sky will still chase you up for the phone connection.

Re: Sky multiroom and telephone line connections
I know they are available for that but with him calling them homeplugs i thought it more likely they were ethernet ones.
Also ive had multiroom without any phone connection for over 2 years and theyve said nothing and as far as im aware it can all be done over ethernet now or will be soon anyway so ethernet homeplugs would work fine for thisLast edited by cjm1979; 13-02-14 at 12:21 PM.

Re: Sky multiroom and telephone line connections
You are one of the lucky ones. There are several reports on the forum of users being hit with hefty bills for not having the multiroom box connected. The latest firmware allows ethernet to replace the phone connection for single boxes. It is rumoured that future firmware will allow multiple boxes to be connected in the same way.

Re: Sky multiroom and telephone line connections
You should check your bills, you might have been paying extra for "4-5 years".
If you are getting warning letters now then you should call Sky and they should apply an exemption without an "engineer"/installer visit.
Unless you speak to an idiot (beware lots of idiots at Sky!) of course.
