Big tree...
Hello all, first post here!
Sky have told me that I cannot have an install at my new property, owing to a big tree being in the way of the required signal path! (the tree is council protected before anybody says 'just cut it down'!).
Is it possible that an independent contractor would be able to place the dish somewhere on the house that sky wouldn't?
Cheers!

Re: Big tree...
People assume they need the dish at the highest point on a building but that isn't the case. What you actually need is a clear view to the horizon in a SE direction. You may be able to achieve this by placing the dish at a low level but elsewhere on the property. The installation might be more expensive if you have a complex cable run but it might achieve the objective of clearly seeing the satellite. Walk around your property and see if you can see the SE horizon from any position and if you feel you can then contact a local installer who might show a bit more interest than many Sky installers seem to do.

Re: Big tree...
I had the same problem a few years ago with a huge oak blocking any house mounted position. Got an independent in and had the dish mounted on the ground at the far base of the tree (a bonus being it was therefore hidden from view).
When you wander, you are looking for a line of sight to between 145 degrees and 141 degrees depending how far north or south you are and an inclination of between 19 and 26 degrees, again depending on location.

This is a useful resource Satellite Finder / Dish Alignment Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com
Just put in the first part of your postcode then move the location pointer, the satellite you're looking for is Astra 2D at 28.2E.

Thanks guys, from the look of it i'll have to get an independent in to see what they can do!
