I am not prepared to pay£410 a year for the little we watch and so i would remind Sky that there is an alternative such as freesat with a humax box which does all that we will want for a one off payment of just over £200. After my holiday i will be taking steps to save money.

Sky will be very aware of Freeview, YouView, Freesat and all the other methods of watching content (LoveFilm, etc.).

Sky has always been a premium product. Sadly it is a long time since it cost you less than £20 for all the available channels for a month.

I can remember in the very early days of Sky, a public statement live on television by someone high up in the company saying "We will never charge to watch our movie channels".

Obviously they have forgotten that statement!

Re: Sky TV price increase on 1 September 2013 by up to 10%

Got my letter today. I will be getting a £2.50 increase.

Doesn't sound a lot but in my opinion sky is way overpriced even before this increase.
My wages have apparently in real terms reduced by 15% over the past five years taking inflation into account.

As it comes into effect on September 1st and my fibre contract expires also in September, I may well be jumping ship totally.
Looks like it will be BT for me. Just need to convince the family. I am so close to achieving that.

The money I would save annually by not having sky tv would pay for a good holiday every year.

Have to say that £3.50 increase is pretty obscene, I have the lot + 2HD's and multi room so I cop for the full £3.50

Couple that with Phone and BB I think they will be getting a call to say thanks but the party is well and truly over!

Check contract T&Cs. Sky are allowed to increase subscription by up to 10% within the terms of the contract. However if your contract only started on 1st July there is also the T&C which states:
Money back guarantee: If you cancel Sky+HD within one calendar month of activation, we will refund the cost of your box (but not any subscription or set up charges).
So if you have changed your mind about subscribing to Sky there is still time to get out of your contract.
