      Scart / composite issue

      Hi guys,

Does anyone know how a scart plug should be wired for the composite (red green blue) to output? I wired my own plug using pins 5&7 blue, 9 & 11 green, 13 & 15 red but nothing is coming out when plugged in my sky box. I have the box set at scart on and rgb.

      Cheers.

Think you also need 14&16 RGB select. Plugs should be wired 5>5, 7>7 etc. not crossed over as is the case with composite video. If that doesn't work go into settings on your Sky box and ensure Scart control is switched to "on" even though that core of the lead is not connected.

      Hi,

Do you mean link 14 and 16 together? Could you clarify what you mean by 5>5, 7>7 etc.

      Cheers,

No link 14 on one plug to 14 on the other etc. 5>5 just my shorthand for saying the same thing.

      Re: Scart / composite issue

Are you looking to have a Composite or an RGB signal for your TV/Recorder? It looks as if you may have set up RGB but actually need Composite and you won't see anything if you have!

If you are taking a signal from the Sky box and trying to pass it to a device with one video and two audio inputs then that's Composite. In that case the audio is as set up for RGB but the single video needs connecting to Pin 19 (Input) and 17 (Composite Ground).

      Hi ya,

Setting up as composite, Red, Green, Blue phono connectors for video, not the single yellow compont layout.

      cheers,

Sorry I think I am confusing the names, Scart / composite issue-capture.jpg this is what I need to connect the sky scart socket too.

      That's COMPONENT, not composite.

I think only the very early Thomson boxes would output component, with dedicated phono outputs.
You can't get component from a scart.

RGB splits the picture into 3 colours, each carrying their own brightness.
Component splits the picture into 2 colours & carries the brightness on the other (green) cable.

      Re: Scart / composite issue

You can buy SCART to Component cables but they only allow a one way feed. See this 1.5M - 5 RCA to SCART | YPbPr Component Cable Lead 450 | eBay and includes the comment " This cable will only work when the SCART is connected to the INPUT device (Eg, your TV), signal can only be fed INTO the SCART, not out of it."

Sorry I misunderstood what you were trying to do. I thought you were connecting Scart to Scart but the Scart was not wired for RGB. As there is no fast blanking input on the device you are connecting to ignore pin 16 but try enabling Scart control in the Sky boxes settings
