You can use the 2nd STB as a Freesat STB. It won't be able to record or do Live Pause and it will only be able to show Free-to-Air (FTA) or Free-to-View (FTV) channels.

      Re: Problem with magic eye...

If I understood your question correctly, you currently have either a Sky+ or Sky+ HD STB downstairs. The UHF feed goes from it to the TV in your bedroom, where you have the Magic-eye.

You wish to place a 2nd Sky+ STB in the bedroom, which will need to be connected to the LNB.

Unless you have a current viewing card in the 2nd STB, then it will not have any Sky+ facilities or be able to tune to any of the encrypted channels.

Whilst you could take your viewing card out of your main STB and insert it into the Sky+ STB, you will need to pair it with the STB to access the channels which you subscribe to and all the other features. This would mean that you main STB would be unable to do anything whilst it doesn't have the card.

You could swap the card back and forth each day, but this would become annoying very quickly.

An alternative option would be to purchase a Freesat+ STB. The good ones cost over 200, but you can get one for less. Of course you could check out sites such as eBay for a good bargain.

To cure the problem by using a 2nd sky box in (presumably) the bedroom, you would need another cable coming from the dish, into the bedroom.

Assuming you haven't got that, you're going to have to solve what is either...

      A) a faulty magic eye
      B) a faulty cable
      C) a bad cable connection
      D) a setting on the sky box

To eliminate D, downstairs on the tv where everything is working, press [services] on the remote.
Then press [right], [select], 0, 1, [select] & check that under the 'RF out' tab, 'RF outlet power supply' is set to on.
Then pop upstairs & check the red led on the tv link that's plugged into the aerial socket of the tv is illuminated.

If you really want to solve your magic eye problem, this should help:
      Satellite and Freeview TV books

Hi Martin, to be helpful please quote the text from your book into this thread. The forum is here to help not promote books that have to be bought.

      Thanks
