      Quality issues on Sky continue

      Hi all

Please see below links to the Sky Help Forum with regards to quality issues with Sky branded channels that Sky are incapable of resolving.

If anyone else has experienced these issues, please submit your reports on these forums, you may not even be aware that this is a broadcasting issue and nothing to do with your equipment. Thank you in anticipation for your help in getting them to sort this!

Without reading through the whole of each thread, I would start by eliminating some possible causes.

Have you tried swapping your STB with a friend's?

Does yours exhibit the same problems on his/her dish?

Does his/her STB have problems on your dish?

This would hopefully help to identify whether the issue is the STB or something else. The something else being:
      1. Dish alignment
      2. Coax cable (perhaps F-Plugs damaged or water in the cable)
      3. LNB has developed a fault

Thanks for your help but I already have it down on record from Jeremy Darroch's office that it is definitely a broadcast issue from their end!

I'm just wondering how many people may have had engineers come out at I hasten to add their own expense, without realising that it is nothing to do with their equipment. Sky have not been exactly forthcoming at admitting this fault, I have had absolute murders with them over it.

Most of the affected boxes are Amstrad, Pace & Samsung HD boxes running Darwin . I am also on the other forum, and, looking through the threads, there is a smattering here and there of other boxes, but their particular problems are probably age-related, and not specifically to do with this. I have an upgraded and perfectly-running Thomson HD box and have to admit I've never had this problem, so I doubt it's a broadcast issue. It may be Darwin software that's at fault, but Sky won't admit it. Alternatively, replace the LNB, and re-align the Sky dish.

I've not seen any problems, other than the BBC problem at 18.58 every night. I wonder if the problem is highlighted more by some STB models? I have the latest Amstrad (895?).

Given the sheer number of model and versions of these different Darwin boxes, and also the fact that the new 890/895's are made in 3 ( at least ) different countries, it's not surprising there are problems. I'd tend to go with a particular issue with software. I don't think this will be resolved easily. It's been going on for long enough.

Out of interest Johnyad, how are you piping the sound?

I tend to use the TOSLink from the Sky+ HD STB via a powered switch to my HT. Prior to having the switch I used to get sound dropouts on a regular basis. Now I rarely get them.

Have you ever performed a 'Planner Rebuild'? This could help with some issues and has been known to help on many occasions.

Also have you considered upgrading the hard drive? It might be that the hard drive has a few errors and a new drive could resolve some of your problems.
