      Audio out on skyhd box

Recently had a SKYHD box (Not plus) fitted with multiroom. I want to connect the audio out to my old amplifier but (disappointly) there are no RCA connectors on the back of the box only an optical out. What do I need to connect the two? I am guessing some kind of digital to analogue converter. Any help sourcing one would be appreciated.

You could use a Scart to RCA adapter if you are not using the scart output. Cost under a fiver.

Digital/Analogue converters are readily available, but they are not cheap. Have a look here-

Re: Audio out on skyhd box

I was afraid the answer wasn't going to be cheap! I wonder if the Sky+ boxes are the same?

Have a look through Maplin website,as they have a scart to scart lead with extra leads connected with phono in and out. Cat no. L01BB

Re: Audio out on skyhd box

The Sky+ & Sky+ HD STBs have audio outputs for phono. The Sky+ HD STBs also have audio output via digital coax & TOSLink.

I do recall in the launch pictures that there was a socket at the rear of SkyHD STB to allow a different cable to be plugged in that would in turn allow a pair of Phono connectors to be plugged into.

Take a look to check that it is still there (right-hand side with the back facing you) then contact someone at Sky to see if they can make this cable available to you. I did think that it was going to be supplied to the boxes though.

Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.
