      90 days warranty comes with the box. It won't be another Thomson - they're being pulled from service as they fail. A lot of irate Thomson owners have been given new Amstrad DRX890's, but they've usually threatened to pull the plug on their Sky subscription first, before Sky CS have relented and ordered a new box - worth trying, especially if you're a good payer with Sky World, BB, phone.

      If you don't ask - you don't get! If you don't succeed first time round, tell them you'll think about it, and then just phone later - you may get a different agent - and response.

      Hi there,

      i can confirm that they are definetly not using Thomson boxes anymore. I called Sky again tonight as my Thomson box has been turning itself off and failing recordings for months now. Monday night they talked me through a system rebuild but that didn't work. Tonight I called to cancel as they wanted 65 to send an engineer and I can't afford that right now. The girl on the phone said she would waive the fee and credit me for any time I had lost the use of the box since I reported the fault (i didn't ask for either of these, just stated I couldn't afford to pay anything). The new box will come come with a 3 month warranty.

      i have been told now that sky only used amstrad boxes now its the the mini hd box and you get a 3month warranty on it and if u keep moaning on the phone to them they will send a engneer out to shut you up. works for me every time.

      Generally it will be a "refurbished" box with a 90 day warranty. It's unlikely to be a Thomson. See if you can keep your old box. It's worth a few quid on eBay.

      just an update had a sky chap out today (for free) plugged in meter thingy in a its the dish! not my box any way he gave me a new box because sky are trying to elimate THOMSON boxes. so now have rang the managment company for my block of flats and they are sending there contractor out to sort the problem.
