      Optical leads

Hi all, is a toslink lead the same as a digital audio lead? I want to connect my DVD surround sound system and sky + box together and need some extra leads and switch. The manual for the dvd players just mentions "digital audio lead" so i'm confused if this is the same as a toslink lead.

      Many thanks for your help.

      Re: Optical leads

Its a Sony RDR GX210, about 8 years old. Its has a optical lead thats goes from the dvd palyer to subwoofer. I've tried plugging the lead into the sky box and it works fine. The optical leads i've seen for sale all seem to be toslink leads. I know i'll need a switch but just wanting to make sure i'll get the correct leads for the switch.

      Re: Optical leads

Sorry, I assumed it was one of the packaged dvd surround systems with in built amp.
What surround amp / receiver are you connecting the dvd and sky to ?
I guess from your reference to a switch it only has 1 optical input ?

      Re: Optical leads

Its a sony amp, dont know the model number but was going to get a 3 way switch, one that you turn a selector knob. Was going to get a lead to connect dvd and sky box to the switch then one lead on the output to the amp. Every think seems to say toslink that i've seen on the net.

      Re: Optical leads

Toslink is just an optical cable with standard optical plugs. It was originally used by Toshiba, which is where the name comes from, TOShiba-LINK.

      Re: Optical leads

There's a guy on Ebay that does really thin Toslink cables, and they work very well.
