      Sky Protect

      Hi Guys
Me again with a question re Sky Protect. I will shortly be coming to the end of my 12 months Sky contract and would be grateful for any advice re taking out the Sky Protect plan. My question is do you think its worth it as I am on a communal aerial and the company that looks after our aerial is very good so its only the Sky box I would be getting the plan for. I know this is a bit of a hit or miss question but I would be grateful for your thoughts .Thanks in advance

Don't bother if any thing goes wrong just cancel it, then get the wife to sign up

      Re: Sky Protect

If you do decide to take out protection, make sure you use the official Sky plan and not one of the cowboys who keep phoning you up. Be aware that they will call you, say your warranty is nearly up and insinuate that they are approved by Sky. They are not, so phone Sky yourself and set it up.

Whether it is worth doing is debatable. It costs just under 70 to call Sky out for a repair or replacement box, which gets you 3 months warranty. The protect plan also includes your router, which if it is out of warranty, will cost you 28 to replace if it is not covered.

It is really a personal choice, if you are they type that likes peace of mind then the plan is probably for you. If you are a bit of a gambler, you might want to take the chance on nothing much going wrong and pay out the call out charge if it does.

You might find it difficult to cancel then rejoin under another name if the phone and address are the same.

Personally, I think it's a complete waste of money.

Me too In the 15+ years I have had Sky, I once paid about 60 I think, for a replacement Sky+ box. Goodness knows what it would have cost me for Protect plans.

      Re: Sky Protect

In the 15+ years I have been with Sky I have never had any issues with any of my Sky Boxes. Perhaps I have been lucky but I agree with the above in that taking out these are a complete waste of time like they are when you buy any electrical item from a shop and you are pressured into taking out an extra warranty, although they sales talk doesn't work with me.

      Re: Sky Protect

Companies make a lot of money out of service plans and extended warranties, that's why they are always pushing them.
