      Sky+ box suddenly giving problems.

I have SKY+ HD box that is about 5 years old now and it has suddenly started giving me problems that are very similar to the ones mentioned here. ie.:-
recordings failing or having to reboot because it locks up. poor (pixellated and jumpy) reception on a number of channels (sky1, 2 and 3, Watch, Gold and Dave)
How can I tell if I have one of the affected Thompson boxes - and what is the best way to resolve it.

I'm REALLY annoyed about this because about a month ago I got pestered by SKY to extend the warranty on the box and turned them down. This couldn't be their way of getting back at me could it?

If you have thompson HD receiver then you are doing well to have had it for 5 years, chances are the PSU needs replacing, you can do this yourself or a better option would be to get Sky to send out an engineer, they will replace it with another receiver and offer another 3 months warranty with it.

Cost 65 for the call but that includes whatever is required to repair the problem.

Sky haven't done this, it is just age but as it is the first problem in 5 years it is still much cheaper to pay the 65 than pay monthly for an insurance.

Thanks for the advice Smithy - although it does go against the advice offered HERE

How can I tell what make/model of HD box I have?

On the back of the box, or in System Details in the menu. If you've had it for almost 5 years, it's a Thomson. The PSU is the problem. Replace or repair.
      Panasonic TX-P50G10B, Onkyo HTS 3305, Sky+HD Thomson 4E3007 (with upgraded PSU & WD5000AVDS HDD),
