What does a 9 digit code mean on my screen?
I have noticed for the past couple of months that I occasionally get a 9 digit number appear outside the picture in the top right corner of my screen. It mostly appears during a football match on Sky Sports 1. I have the screen in 4:3L mode so this number shows in the black bars.
It happened today during the Stoke v Man Utd game and the number was
048 824 859. It has appeared a few times with different numbers and Googling it gives no results. Any idea what it means?

its some sort of security code, i read it in a update recently, its nothing to worry about.

It's been suggested that it is a code for Sky to fnd out who is streaming footy matches on the interweb and showing in pubs without a commercial subscription.

Ah that would make sense. I thought it was weird being outside the picture but then I suppose not many are watching in 4:3. It does dissappear after a few minutes and vanish if changing up a channel and back again.
Thanks (not really an issue as such I know but if they are showing me code its nice to know what it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Googling the number probably wouldn't help as different people get different numbers. As mentioned above it is to do with checking pubs and making sure they have a proper pub subscription rather than a home one.

Unless of course the poster is in the Alpha Centauri system, but even then it would have taken around 8.5 years for him to read the message and post it back.

Sky now "digitally watermark" all their Sports broadcasts so they can identify with 100% accuracy which customers content is being streamed online. If anyone is doing this then they should expect the subscription to be blocked and permanently banned within a few minutes!
