anytime+/open source update - connection problem

i got the new anytime+/open source update on my 1TB amstrad box.
the box detected a "broadband connection" i accepted and my box is getting an ip address from DHCP.

however for "system connection" i am getting a FAIL.

i can only think this is due to me using a non-sky router with the SkyLLU broadband.

i've get my router and i don't have any ports set to forward and no firewall rules (all outgoing connections allowed and incoming via NAT - all as standard).

i seen other users say they don't have the issue with their non-sky router. any suggestions for what i should be looking for in the router logs?

Why are you using a non-Sky router with Sky broadband? Presumably you still have the sky router you got free when you signed up.
Why not just use that? My feeling is that the problem will then go away. It is certainly worth trying.

because the supplied sky router is absolute crap.
pathetic wifi coverage and locked down software.

i require N wifi and to be able to set things the way i want (neither the sky router allows).

Re: anytime+/open source update - connection problem

I can understand the wifi coverage issue, but I have heard that the software can be flashed to make it a standard router. Is it worth connecting the sky router up (if you still have it) just to see if it works? If it does, then you can go into the router configuration, make a note of the settings, and input them into your non-sky-router. I'm not sure about the Sagem, but for the Netgear this would be:
      ip address: 192.168.0.1
      username: admin
      password: sky

Does the Sky HD box allow you to set up a connection manually, or does it just connect automaticaly using DHCP? does your router use the same default gateway address (192.168.0.1) as a sky router?

Re: anytime+/open source update - connection problem

Different router brands use different gateway addresses. For example, a Billion router is: 129.0.0.254. This may well be the reason why the OP's non-sky router doesn't work, because it is a different default gateway address. You can change the default gateway address used by your sky box in: Services > Settings > Network > Manual IP Configuration > Gateway Router. Other settings that can be changed are: IP Address, Subnet, DNS.
