      Multiroom Help

We are getting sky multiroom installed on monday and ive got a few questions regarding phone lines.

The sky box we currently have has NO phone line plugged into the back of it, and where the multiroom box is being fitted the phone line is quite a distance from so heres my question, do i really need a phone line running to both boxes? its such a pain to keep the sky plugged into the phone box because of the distance.

ALSO, we have had sky for YEARS now, and the multiroom box is going to be Sky+ we are worried that the mini dish might not have enough feeds, if so will we be charged extra for a new mini dish or do all older dishes have enough feeds to support sky+ and a normal box?

      Regards, Nathan

Yep both boxes must be on the telephone line but they will run very happily on extension leads. Your installer will fit a new LNB on your dish and the cables needed for it to work.

Okay, Regarding the phone line, have you any recommendations on wireless ones? ive got my own phone line extender to see how far it goes and i need about 15m wire for it, can the engineer tuck it around nicely so it wont look tacky for free?

      Re: Multiroom Help

Sky employ installers not engineers. The installer will bring the Digibox but the viewing card comes by post. He will normally install the phone extension for free but don't expect it to look nice. The installer is supposed to test the completed system before asking you to sign his sheet. If it's not fully working, don't sign.

Wireless 'phone extenders sometimes work OK. Make sure you can return it for a refund.

      Re: Multiroom Help

Sky employ engineers but the word engineer is arguable but if the engineer who calls is from Sky and not a sub contractor the job will be done well.

Both boxes will be connected by telephone cable even is its run internally or external of the property but some lazy sub contractors will just use a cable reel, do a call back and leave and not run a cable to the 2nd box, this is a no, no.

      Card will come via post.
      Engineer will bring the box.
Engineer will fit a quad LNB.
Engineer will run new cable to complete the job.
Engineer "Should" run a telephone cable to 2nd box (this is a must).

Regarding the wireless extender set it up yourself and make sure its working first before the engineer get there, its saves time and you know its working but some extenders dont work with some Sky boxes hence the initial test setup first.

Weather the engineer uses it, thats up to the engineer whom visits.
