      Telephone connection?

We currently have Sky+ in our living room. The box is connected to a telephone socket directly behind it.

We are hoping to change this box to a new HD box and then put the old Sky+ box in our conservatory and get multiroom. BUT there is NO telephone socket anywhere near our conservatory. Nearest socket will be over 5 metres away. Do we have to have our old box (with multiroom subscription) connected to telephone socket or will the fact that the new HD box will be plugged into telephone line suffice?

      Thanks for any help.

Yep, as Steve has said, multiroom subscriptions require phone connections to both boxes.

But on a good news front the sky tv boxes can run very happily on a long telephone extension lead unlike ADSL routers.

      Re: Telephone connection?

Thanks everyone. Guess I won't be getting Sky in my conservatory then .

I've actually measured the distance from my telephone socket to the conservatory and is 10 metres in a straight line with no way of getting an extension under the newly laid solid wood flooring.

Bit of a blow as we spent yesterday taking up floorboards upstairs to run the sky cable through - and unfortunately the telephone can't take the same route because it's on the other side of the house. Naturally the salespeople in the shopping centre say that you don't have to have the box connected to a phoneline but I thought I'd check when a friend said she thought it did..........

You can get wireless phone extensions which plug into the power circuit. These are similar to the broadband homeplugs, but work with the phone.

Never believe what you are told by shopping mall sellers, they will tell you anything to make their commission.

      Re: Telephone connection?

You cannot connect the multiroom telephone point to the router, it won't work. Not sure what you are talking about.

As for the OP, can you not come out behind the master socket and around the outside of the house to get to the conservatory? the cable is pretty thing and can easily be hidden along the mortar joint. Much easier and neater than an internal cable.

I did not think Sky TV or Sky broadband was available in Kenya
You are welcome to post, but please do not post misleading information. The Sky box has a built in dial up modem which will not work by plugging it into the ADSL router. This may confuse members who do not know differently.

Unfortunately we are mid terrace so that isn't an option either. Thanks though.
