HOW TO DO A SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE
For Every Sky Digibox In Existence
This Set Of Instructions Will Allow You To Do A 'Forced' Software Update
These Instructions Are Also Safe To Do Yourself And Doesn't Void Any Warrantys
Most EPG/Software Related Problems Can Be Fixed By Doing This
Currently Some Amstrad Sky+HD Boxes May Get The Old Style EPG Until The Roll-out Is Complete For Amstrads (Thanks Kenedin & reddwarfcrew)
      1. Turn Off Your Box At The WALL
      2. Hold The BACKUP Button Down On Your SkyBox
      3. Continue To Hold The BACKUP Button In And Turn It On At The Wall
      4. When A Message Appears On Screen UPDATING SYSTEM SOFTWARE And The Lights Light Up On The Box, Release The BACKUP Button
      5. Wait Until The SkyBox Goes Into Standby (~10 Minutes)

NOTE: The Message Will Not Display If You Are Connected By RF (Thanks reddwarfcrew)
NOTE: If You Have Low Signal It May Not Update (Thanks Old Nick)

If This Has Helped You Then Please Press Thanks

You have to be viewing sky via scart and not RF to see this message (i assume hdmi also shows the message, but not tried it).

I think you should add a warning... "Do not attempt to do this if you have signal strength problems"

Re: HOW TO: Do a System Software Update On All Sky Boxes

People who have somehow missed the new HD EPG download from Sky as part of its selective rollout can indeed obtain the new EPG/OS through the forced update method provided that automatic updates for ALL model & version numbers for their particular make of HD digibox ( Amstrad, Pace, Thomson, Samsung ) have been completed by Sky, and the download is made available by Sky on the backup stream. Amstrad owners are the last to have to wait before they too will be able to update boxes that, for various reasons, have missed their turn.

Users on all the main forums have been doing this with each completed make of HD digibox , since the Thomsons ( including mine ) were updated last March.

Yep a forced update will pick up the latest EPG that is on the stream. For HD users this may or may not be the new EPG dependent on your box and version number.

It will be OK for Samsung, Thomson and Pace owners, but NOT yet for Amstrad owners. Watch this space, lol

Re: HOW TO: Do a System Software Update On All Sky Boxes

Can someone please confirm that the update/upgrade is done via the satellite and not by the telephone connection?

      Thanks
