Finding the sat. is just a matter of making sure that the dish is pointing in the correct direction.
As the software update relies on the signal from the satellite if the box is not receiving a good quality satellite signal then a software update will fail.
I don't know if firmware for your box is still being transmitted but assuming it is signal level and quality need to be at least 50% for an update to succeed.
A type 2 dish is required to get a good signal level in the north of Scotland. I'm not sure whether this would apply to your location.

Yes I realised that, which as I said, is why I took the boxes into the house to force the updates. The newer one updated, but the older Grundig did not. I wanted to know if a normal update would happen if I left it on standby over a Friday night?

The best way to answer this would be to leave the STB connected over a period of time.

To be fair though, knowing what I do about the updates to the SkyHD and Sky+ HD STBs, I would suggest that you would be better off changing the STB to a more modern one.

If it doesn't have a current viewing card I would consider purchasing a cheap Freesat or Freesat+ STB. If you are using a Sky viewing card in the STB, then consider the SkyHD STB (no hard drive) or a DRX890.

      Hi All,

No. A software update is perfectly safe. Just make sure that there aren't any scheduled recordings due to start while the software update is taking place. Allow 15 minutes.

According to http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-h...tml#post397759 you already have the latest software that is available for your model of Sky+ HD box.

Re: HOW TO: Do a System Software Update On All Sky Boxes

      Thank you for that,
The reason I asked, is that the box I have in the bedroom has the new EPG, and this one doesn't, plus it keeps dropping the On Demand signal to my router.
Any ideas what I can do to rectify these ?
      cheers.

The latest firmware for the Amstrad DRX780 has not been released to the public yet.

I'm not sure why there is a delay but it should be rolled out sometime soon. Unfortunately I don't know if this will be in a week or month.

Would the update sort out the dropping of the router signal ?
      cheers.

The firmware update for your DRX780 will have nothing to do with your router's WiFi signal.

If you have a Wireless adaptor for the Sky STB then it might be useful to look at repositioning it or your router.
