      Using spare Sky+ box

I have just had Sky HD installed and am left with a Sky+ box.

I dont want to go down the "multiroom" route, but would like to set it up in another room, the installation will be simple enough as I have a Quad LNB fitted and it is installed at ground floor level.

      So my questions are:-

If I use it as a freesat box, I understand that some channels (CH 5 etc) are not available without a 20 card from Sky (Is this still the case and is it worth it)

Also is there any way to have the Sky+ functions (pause live tv record / playback etc) working without a subscription package?

I would like to be able to record in that room as well as the lounge, so if its a no, any ideas other than a Freesat HD Box (Humax Foxsat or sim)

      Thanks

      Alan

Without a sky sub you can have the record function but will cost 10 a month.

Yes you can use it as a free view box

If you are going to pay 10 a month for the recording, why not just pay the 10 Multiroom, then you would get the recording and the same channels, as well as not needing to pay for a card.
~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

I'm not too keen on giving them another 10 / month, on top of the full HD package, Max Broadband and now the phone line I think I'll just run a HDMI cable into the other room.

The rest of the bedrooms etc are fed by a Global 8 way amp (RF)

Might put the Sky+ box on ebay and put the money towards a Freesat recorder

Thank you both for your advice
