There is a technical fault with this channel please try later message on all channels

A couple of years ago we bought a one-off payment installation from Sky including a digibox and dish. We did not get Freesat because it does not have Sky News which is all we watch. We do not have Freeview or cable in this area (Sky told us they had sold us Freeview!!) so I am not sure what we got but believe it to be Free to Air programmes.

It has been great but now we are getting the message "There is a technical fault with this channel. Please try later" on all of the available of the 998 channels.

I have been taking it off the power and trying again and sometimes get an alternative message "No satellite signal is being received"

      Can anyone help please?

Most of these 'technical fault' messages are temporary and are cured by a cold reboot. If that doesn't fix it the most likely problem is a faulty LNB on the dish or a faulty receiver. Some of these Sky models have known faults. See Sky Digibox problems

Try a Full System Reset. On the remote, press Services, 4, 0, 1, & Select. There is no onscreen response as you press the '0' & '1' - press the sequence anyway. In the resulting Installers Setup, select Option 8 ( Full System Reset ) and continue as instructed. The reset takes seconds only and leaves the box in standby. Wait a couple of minutes, then press Sky to view.

If still no joy, switch off the box, disconnect from the mains, and remove the two Dish Inputs at the back of the box. Wait a few minutes, then carefully reconnect the Dish Inputs, switch on again at the mains, wait a couple of minutes for the listings to load, then press Sky to view.

As a last resort, try a friend's box on your setup. If it works OK, then your box is faulty and will have to be replaced. If not, you probably have a dish/LNB/cable fault , and you'll have to phone Sky for a 65 callout.

Do you have a viewing card in your box? If so, it might be that following the release of the new cards yours is now invalid. You would need to call sky for a new card, not sure whether a charge is involved.

I have a similar issue as mygoose. For the last few days on BBC 1, 2 & also C4 I have had fuzzy/loss of picture but then it has come back. I then did a reboot as the message said "There is a technical fault with this channel" but today I now have no BBC1, 2 or C4.
The messages now start off saying technical fault but then switch to no signal?

I haven't yet got a new viewing card & have looked into this & it will cost 20 but will this resolve my issues or might the channels just reappear?

      Any help would be appreciated

Thanks but this is not a similar issue to mine.

We have lost all of our programs, just get the two error messages, and ours is not a viewing card system.

ours is not a viewing card system.
You may not think so, but it probably is. Look at the front of the box, you will probably find there is a card in the slot. If there is, take it out, switch the power to the box off then on again. You may find you are able to get basic programs. I think you may have taken the Sky for Life offer which was open a couple of years ago. It will probably need a new card to restore the full functions.

Thanks but no it's not a viewing card system, we just have the Free to Air programs. I wondered though if it may have something to do with it as it has been said that the new card system was introduced to block access to those without it.

Sky don't want to know about it. Having been passed around endlessly they said that as we just purchased the box etc from them as a one-off we are not Sky customers and they did not even have a record of our purchase.

At the time, they said they did not provide a contract or invoice for our kind of customer and all we have are the records of the installation which was a disaster.

Thanks but no it's not a viewing card arrangement. There are two viewing card slots on the front of the box but it has never needed a card and the installation we purchased was not intended to. I took the box details off the system to speak to Sky (ha ha) and even there it is stated Viewing Card - NO CARD.

It's a shame as we have it only for Sky News which our 84 year old loves to watch and it's been superb up until now.

We had it before Sky for Life - wasn't that linked to Freesat?

      Thanks for help.

It may have been but it was mainly an attempt by Sky to get more viewers by giving 3 months free viewing, then basic channels after that if you did not want to subscribe. If that is not what you had, I can't think of anything else that it would be, unless it was the Freesat from Sky
Freesat from Sky - Pay Once Watch Forever.

I still suspect it may be tied into the new cards Sky have issued.

Thanks but it was not anything like that and we had it before Freesat and we cannot have Freeview ore cable as they are not in our area.

The arrangement was that if you did not subscribe to any of the Sky viewing card packages the installation cost was twice their usual charge, you could get Free to Air programmes and no further involvement by Sky.

I agree with you, and for the reason I said in my previous post, think it must be something to do with the new viewing cards.

Now we have another problem. The green "on" switch on the digibox will not stay on. It keeps flipping to red and turning off the box.

      Thanks for help.
