Leaving Sky - what happens with Sky+ and free to view?

      Hi,

While we've always been happy with Sky, we've been offered a too good to turn down package through Virgin's friends and family scheme.

I've spoken to Sky customer services on 4 separate occasions and each time get slightly different advice over what happens with what I've recorded, and how the Sky free to view service will work.

      1) Recordings - I want to be able to continue watching what I've already got recorded. One person said we'd have to pay 9.75 per month per box to do this. Another said we'd be able to continue watching recorded items from channels like BBC1 which are free to view, but we'd lose things recorded from say Sky Movies / Sky Sports. If the latter is true what's the point of paying the 9.75 if I only have recorded things from the basic channels anyway? Which advisor was right? If I want to record new things do I need to pay the 9.75?

      2) Free to view - One person said we'd have to pay 25 for a viewing card, another said we'd be able to use the boxes as they are without paying anything, for the free to view channels.

      I'm confused!

You will need to purchase a freeview card from sky which is around 20, and if you wish to use the recording facility of + then you will also have to pay the 10 /month per box for this.

If you have the new white Sky Viewing Card then that will revert to Freesat from Sky if you stop subscribing, so you won't need a new card. Sky+ will costs 10/month for the ability to record/playback BUT you can only playback from packages you subscribe to - so if you drop a Sky package you won't be able to playback any recordings from that package. In your case it will only work with BBC/ITV etc.
