Sky tv sound fuzy and crackly for 9months now!!! :'(

Aloha i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows what the best solution would be??

Ive had my sky tv box for 13months now, so just passed the 1year warranty.

But for about the last 9months it gets crackly and fuzzy sound every 20-30seconds (no matter what channel your watching),
and so you have to unplug the box, plug it back in and do the channel search to get all channels, then redo that again,
and then it will be ok for about 6-8hours,
but then the fuzzy sound restarts and so you have to redo the process again!!

I didnt used to notice it much as i wasnt in my flat watching tv for last 11months, but then over last 1month i noticed it ALOT.

I thought loads of times about calling the technican to come and look,
but the problem is that since its not a permenant thing,
theres extremely little chnace that it would be happening the exact minute that he came.

And so when he came itd be fine and id look stupid and like id called him out for no reason,
but an hour or 2 later it would start!

Im now out of the 1year warranty so cant do that.

And so i was thinking that i would just 'cancel my sky tv contract now', let them come take away that faulty box,
and then the next day go on their website and re-order the sky tv package again, getting myself a fresh new box and a new 1year warranty.

(I know that it is the box's fault not my tv as i tested tv by linking it to laptop and playing videos, music through tv, and the sound is fine)

Has anyone else had this problem before though??

And is there any ''re-connection fees'', or anything like that that il have to pay if i leave sky and then restart it the next day??

      Thanks

I'm pretty sure you cant leave Sky then rejoin the next day, they are a little smarter than that. They dont come and take the box away its yours. Maybe try the "I'm going to leave coz this box is a pile of poo" line and see where that gets you. If not try sourcing a second hand box yourself, theres loads of standard boxes around now HD and + are more popular.

The box is yours, they will not collect it from you.

As above, ring sky, see if they will send an installer out for free due to it being an on going problem which is getting worse. If they refuse and ask you to pay the 65, ask to be put through to cancellations.

Explain to them you do not want to pay the 65 for an installer to repair a box that has been faulty for a few months and is getting worse, so therefore see no point in keeping it or your Sky package. The people at cancellations may wave the fee and send an installer out for nothing.

What i would advise doing is organise for the installer to come and look, leave the sky on until it starts misbehaving, then don't unplug the box but instead leave it until the installer arrives, he should give you another box if he can't sort the current one.

      Hope this helps.

Call in someone who has the tools to test them.
