Warranties!!!!
Why am I being asked to pay an additional £100 a year to insure the various bits of equipment that I have from Sky? I have had a company phone me, saying they were authorised by Sky to offer me insurance for breakdown of equipment even though I only joined Sky at the end of November last year. Surely it's up to Sky to sort out their equipment and if, as I was told, the equipment is 'mine' then the Sale of Goods Act comes into force whereby there is a minimum warranty of 2 years. Is anyone else paying for such an add on?

Re: Warranties!!!!
I'd be 99.99% confident that the call was nothing to do with Sky. There are lots of scam companies out there that pretend to be calling on behalf of sky.
Sky does offer an extended warranty service and also offers an out of warranty service. It's out of warranty service is £65 all in for parts and labour, so unless your equipment fails twice a year every year then it is a waste to have a warranty.
As for the Sales of Goods Act you have up to 6 years to take an item back.
For those interested in the Sales of Goods Act, more info can be found at the link below.

Re: Warranties!!!!
I had a call from Domestic and General on behalf of sky.
They said to me that you took out a sky HD subscription in July, asked me how I was finding it etc, and asked if I wanted to extend the warranty for an extra 3 years, will cost me 10 payments of 8.90 then will cover me for 3 years and not start till july next year and that apparently it gets added onto my sky bill.
When I asked them about my current warranty with sky they said all it covers is the box, with the extended one it will cover cable, dish, bolts, box, remote etc etc.
Told them I'l think about it.
I do have domestic and general warranty with other products though.
Makes a change thoughnormally get a call from other compaines telling me my warranty had ran out only last month had a call from Skyplan??? saying my warranty with sky had ran out. I said funny that. It expired 3 years ago, but then took out a HD sub 2 months ago, they then apologised and put the phone down

Re: Warranties!!!!
The current 1 year warranty (as long as you had it installed thru Sky and not an independant) covers the dish, lnb, cable, box and dish alignement.
D&G is the only official company that Sky allow to offer extended warranties.

Re: Warranties!!!!
So at least I know it was a genuine call then.
When I got my install though he only put a box in as I previoulsy had Sky+ so does that mean that my dish , lnbs, cables etc are still covered by the warranty even though they are more than a year old?

Re: Warranties!!!!
Yes they should be.
As part of the install, the guy has made the decision to leave the current dish and cabling in place. That was HIS choice and as such you will still be covered (In my opinion).

Re: Warranties!!!!
So is it worth taking out with D and G then?

Re: Warranties!!!!
IMO 'no'.
You will pay D&G £89 for a further 3 years.
a) you have the sales of Goods act to cover you
b) a single sky call out is only £65
Taking boths these into account, you will be financially worse off if you takes out the extra cover.
