      RGB v PAL

      Some advice needed here guys.

Got Sky+ installed today, just had a standard Sky box before this.

Anyway my tv picture has always been fine, unti today after I had the Sky+ installed. The picture went snowy and the colours were changing from light to dark.

I got on the phone to Sky, and the guy told me to change from rgb to pal.

I done this and the picture has improved. But what I can't understand, is that I was always under the impression rgb gave you the better picture.

rgb is also what I used with a standard sky box.

So the question is, does it really matter if it's rgb or pal?

RGB should have a better picture as there is no chroma luma interference. Sounds like a loose scart and clueless phone jockey following script to me.

      Re: RGB v PAL

I did have a TV once where the RGB signal was very poor and I always used it on PAL, but when I got a new TV it was the reverse. So I guess the old TV must have been faulty or badly designed.

Check that the SCART sockets are well seated at both the Sky+ box and the TV. Then switch back to RGB. If it doesn't improve phone Sky and say the Sky+ box is faulty and it needs replacing - and make sure they understand it's a new box and needs a new box replacement not a recon unit.

      Re: RGB v PAL

Also, make sure the scart is plugged into the RGB enabled sockets on both TV and the Sky+ box, installers have been known to incorrectly connect this up. You could also try investing in a decent Scart that you're sure is RGB enabled, you don't have to spend stupid prices for one of those Monster things but a tenner should get you something decent.
