Sky+ digibox switches off while watching TV

in the last day or two my digibox has started to switch itself off without warning while I'm watching a programme. It isn't possible to turn it back on right away. If I disconnect then reconnect the power cable it will start up after a couple of minutes.

So far today it has switched off at least twice and now it has failed to record a TV programme.

Does anyone have any ideas of what might be happening?

Sounds like it's about to die! How old is it? if more than a couple of years it could be the power supply or hard drive is starting to fail.

Hi Bryan you could try services then 5 Sky + setup on auto standby turn it off and save settings see if that works

This is my second Sky+ digibox, the first one I received two years ago failed just before it was out of warranty so I received a free replacement. I was fairly sure that the replacement wasn't brand new as the box it came in didn't look like the manufacturers box. Therefore I can't say for certain how old it really is but I have had it for about a year.

It seems to me that these Sky+ digiboxes don't last as long as the basic digibox, my previous one lasted about eight years..

Luck of the draw really, mines about 5 years old now and I've only ever had the hard drive fail and fixed that myself. Although most of the Sky + box's look much the same they were made by 3 manufactures Pace, Amstrad and Thompson and from what I've seen the build quality and reliabilty doe's vary.

If this is an Amstrad (4F21XX) then it is a known issue and will be resolved shortly via a software download

my standard sky box was set up for rec i left it on but it did not rec i set up the video if you put it on stand by will the box come on if you use the planner or do you have to leav the box on also if you have auto stand by and the box goes off will it come on t self via the planner thanks in advance sorry if its in the wrong sect it wont let me start a new thread

I have the same problems on my new (reconditioned) Sky + box - which turns out is an Amstrad 4F21XX.

@BuckleZ - you say there's going to be a download to correct this? How will that work?

I assume it's not like Xbox live where the system downloads the patch as soon as you turn it on. So how do we get hold of it?
