      upgrading to costly

i have sky+ and a standard sky box multiroom, ive just phoned sky to replace my standard box with a sky+ one i was shocked to be told it would cost 199 now i dont wont something for nothing but if i was a new customer the cost would be 49 so i was told, seems a bit unfair on loyal customers of sky dont you think?

      Re: upgrading to costly

Maybe, but when you joined Sky, you probably already had a deal on your hardware, unless you are one of the unlucky ones who joined at a time when Sky weren't running any offers.

Think of it this way, if you buy a new car at 10000, then 2 months later the same dealer is selling the same car, same model as yours, same price, but with an Ipod stereo, sports kit and leather seats free of charge. you wouldn't be going back to the dealer saying you want the addons free of charge (well you might, but they'll tell you that you have to buy them, as your car isn't part of the deal). You bought the car, then later the deal changed. There is nothing that can be done.

Sky is the same. You more than likely got either a deal on your programming or hardware when you joined, but now when you try to upgrade, you have to pay more because you have already had the deal.

Why not get a HD box foe 49 and 9.75 per month for the HD?

simple answer is business im afraid. A new customer is then hooked for one year and the chances are will spend more money during that time . I have every sympathy with your situation but unless you want to phone again and state that your leaving , maybe for VM there is not much more you can do

      Re: upgrading to costly

just spoke to customer services about changing my standard sky box to a new sky+ box, was totally shocked by the price, because i have sky+ and multi room, the new sky+ box will be 292.64 plus 117 installation charge,so loyal customers get no rewards! just because i already have one sky+ box,

what about if you cancel your subscription and set up a new account?

Check the T&C of course but it may be cheaper.

just a quick question, a friend is going abroad and doesnt want his sky hd box, could i use it in place of my second sky standard box? could i just swap the boxes over? or would sky have to install it, and then charge me hd subsription?
