Will my sky+ card work in a skyHD box?

I'm a sky+ subscriber and I'm buying a new LED tv which only has HDMI connections. My sky+ box has no HD connections so I'm thinking of buying a HD box just for the connections and not subscribe to HD. Will the HD box work with my sky+ card. I no you have to ring sky and pair the card but is what I'm doing allowed?
