      sky tv direct debit.

I hope this is the right bit of the forum.

I have the basic tv package plus 4 packs, comes to 19.50 a month.
Last week i got an email asking if i wanted to try everything for free for a month, no obligation.
I went for it of course!

Yesterday i got a letter from Sky saying that i was to be billed 50+
Upon speaking to them i'm told that they always charge upfront and if and when i decide not to keep the sports/movies at the end of the month trial i will be credited accordingly.
Is this normal practice as it seems to be a bum about face way of dealing with things?

You do have to pay for your Sky subscription upfront. Although I do agree if it is free why bill you for it?

Probably the system won't let it be done any other way, plus there is the point that if it's set at zero cost and someone forgets to check after one month it will stay at zero cost till it's discovered.

plus they are hoping that customer inertia means that you won't cancel after the free month and you are being billed rather than the free thing being turned off.

Just think how much money they will bring in, even for just one month, if they gave everyone a "free" months subscription and took the following months payment. If they returned all of it within a week, they would make a fortune off the interest of a few million quid.Helps raise a bit of capital in these hard times and makes them look good when they show they are offering a months free trial.

Hi I have just accepted an offer for sky world free for 30 days. The e'mail says I will be charged my normal subscription. And after 30 days, if I don't cancell will be charged the full price from then on. They also say they will send an e'mail when I need to cancell. If not wanted.

That sounds very much like the email i received, but, as mentioned above, i was charged upfront, with i presume a credit to be applied to my account later if i decide to cancel and go back to my original package.

Well I hope that will not happen to me. It says twice in my e'mail that only my normal payment will be taken. Fingers crossed.

      Martin

Maybe it's slightly different to the one i got, but i called up to query it to be told that what they are doing is their standard practice, and it would be free if i cancelled within the month as i'd be given a credit!
