lost picture quality on football matches.

      Hi all,
im new to this forum so please forgive me if i don't put my problem across in the most precise way.
i have a 8 year old 42" Samsung Plasma tv.
it has always given fairly good quality pictures on sky sports channels.
recently, and for no reason i can put my finger on the picture as deteriorated.
on close up shots the picture is perfect, as it is when on long distance shots with little movement. however when the camera starts following fast moving action the players become very blocky with a type of blur following them. it seems like they are in slow motion some times!
i have another TV hooked up to the sky box which shows the same problem, that is a small LCD screen.
if i watch the match on the terrestrial signal it does not give the same problem?
this leads me to believe that it is something in the SKY box which is astray.

i hope that was clear enough for you guys/gals to have an idea what is wrong.
thanks in advance for your replies.

      Hi wozelbeak,

I have Sky HD, Samsung box but not the new EPG yet.
I watched the Chelsea v Liverpool match last night on channel 103 and the picture quality was shocking

Exactly as you describe very "blockly" and "halos" round players when the camera viewed from distance.
Checked the picture on Freeview and it was a lot better.

Several guys at work commented on the same poor pic this morning on Sky.

So if you watched the same game there may be nothing wrong with your box, just Sky pushing more people to HD for the extra 10/month by downgrading SD picture quality at times

I can not wait to get the new EPG so I can tune into ITVHD for football.

Re: lost picture quality on football matches.

ITV picture quality is abysmal. It was shown at it's worst when covering the football last night. So if it's just ITV that's causing the problem then don't worry as it's a;ways like that. However if it's Sky Sports as well then you may have a problem associated with your Sky box. The suggestion to compare the image from terrestrial TV is a good one (even if your plasma is too old to have built in Freeview tuner).

If it is your Sky equipment then you should check the signal strength and signal quality first. Maybe your dish needs a tweak or your LNB is past it's sell by date (or even the cabling and connectores need renewing).

      sec loca pic format 4:3
      scart on
      video output RGB
      contrast medium
search and scan baner time out 5 sec
      on screen icon t/out off
      message alert on

      system details
      model number 129e163
