      Multi-room worries

We have a Multiroom set-up, have done for years, with a second box in a bedroom. When it was installed a phone line was put in around the back of my house so the box was able to connect to box office etc.

Recently, the line has gone faulty.

The box was paid for under the original multi room scheme, where I paid a bit each month for 3 years, until the Skybox was mine.

Do I need to get the phoneline repaired, some seem to think I still have to have my second box connected to a phone line, others say not. HELP!

      Re: Multi-room worries

First off yes you do need to connect your boxes to the phone line with multiroom as Sky use callbacks to make sure all your boxes are in the same house.

Although the don't tend to get snotty for a least a month and then they send you a letter telling you to reconnect them.

You don't need to get the extention repaired though, my multiroom box is connected to one of my master sockets (yes I have 2 way to go BT on my crazy install) by a 30m phone extention cable that is ran under the carpet.

Hopefully that should be a lot cheaper than having the extenion repaired.

      Re: Multi-room worries

I'm interested about this too - as when I had my multiroom installed I understood it to only be a 12 month comittment to have the box connected to an active phoneline - as is the case with a normal box.
As I said, I too am interested into the facts of this, as I have had the phone line unplugged on my multi-box for the last 10 months without any issues (so far at least!)

      Re: Multi-room worries

Sky insist that the phoneline is connected to all receivers on multiroom for the duration that they are on it, you agreed to this in the T&C's, this is to ensure that all receivers stay in the same property and you do not just subscribe to multiroom and give the box to someone else.

After 12 months you can unsubscribe from multiroom but if you stay on it you must have a phoneline plugged in.

Sky will eventually find out and bill you for full subscriptions for any multiroom boxes that are not connected to phone lines and can even back date it to the last time they did call backs, in your case 10 months

You may wish to check your account if you pay via D/D to make sure that they are not already doing so.
