Complicated issue - taking +HD box on holiday

      Hello

      Looking for experience here.
I have an old sky box in the caravan and can watch freesat channels on it.
However I have a +HD box at home and would like to take it with me instead to watch some recorded stuff. (I won't be able to just switch cards obviously)
Trouble is, +HD is supposed to remain plugged in to the phone line.
If I take it with me and plug my old sky box into the phone line, will that fool anyone?
Alternatively, what's the worst that can happen if I just take +HD with me and plead ignorance if anyone takes issue? After all, I am paying for the priviledge!

Unless you are away for months on end, I don't think anything would happen. Sky would send you a letter asking you to plug it back in initially.

I cant see a problem with that after all if you were going on holiday then you would disconnect all you electrical equipment from the mains as a safety precaution wouldnt you.
I might be wrong but if the box is powered off then unless the phone connection within it is powered via the phone line it wouldnt work.
If sky do say anything then you just tell them you were on hols and switched it off.
If you were taking it abroad and using it to receive signals then that would be a different matter as it would be a copyright breach, but from what youve said that doesnt seem to be the case.

      Thanks Newsie
So you reckon it's not even worth plugging in an old box? Would a routine Sky check highlight the swap?
I suppose I could do it anyway and say I'd used the +HD in another room if I was asked!
We'll be in France and unable to respond to a letter. What the hell?

      Ah well Dholdi
As you'll see from my post which crossed yours, we are headed for Euroland but I won't tell Sky if you don't. Good suggestion for unplugging everything though - including phones of course. Devious eh? Been no problem in the past with the freesat but I was aware of the technical breach

Remember that the Sky+ must have a satellite signal to be able to view recorded programmes so you will need a dish and quad LNB aswell.

Yes I have used the "freesat from Sky" previously in France. I'll need to get the quad lnb though my tame sky fitter friend.South of Loire the received progs are reduced unless you have a bigger dish. (size matters apparently!) Not being techie myself, does anyone know if you have to be able to receive a signal for the channel you previously recorded to watch that recording or is a sky signal adequate provided your subscription for that channel is up to date. I am aware that you can't e.g. record movies then stop subscribing to them and watch the movies after the sub. has run out.

The receiver just has to see a signal to power up. Even if it's not a great signal you should be ok.

      Just an afterthought.
Do I need the quad LNB just to watch stuff I previously recorded? I don't intend to record anything while in France - just watch what I receive and also some recorded stuff if possible.
My existing caravan dish has only the single LNB but a quad can easily be got.
