      Sky+ Playback & Recording Problems

      Hi all,

Some time ago, we had our faulty Sky+ box replaced with a new Thomson PVR3 as our original box would not record properly, or playback programmes it did manage to record.

Our new box worked ok for a while, then developed similar problems to our old box. If we set the box to record, the programme would be recorded but when we tried to watch the recording, we get one of two possibilities!!

Problem 1: When we try to view a recording, we are informed 'For Your Information' Recording Interrupted,Please wait. This is displayed on the screen for a few seconds, then we are informed 'End of programme'.

Problem 2: When we try to view a recording, the box appears to be playing back a recording but the picture is a still image of the programme we were watching, almost as if the pause button had been pressed.

Sky customer services put an engineer on the line who talked the wife through a process of resetting the remote and tuning it to the TV. Apparently this involved removing the sky input cables from the back of the box etc etc.

This resolved the problem for approximately 2 days. I recorded a whole bunch of stuff which I can't watch. I am now at my wits end!!

I refuse to pay 88 for an engineer to come out as the box isn't even a year old.

      All suggestion appreciated.

      Regards

Do you have any wireless equipment near the box that may be interfering?

I am wondering if you have run out of available disc space. Check your Sky+ Planner and see how much free space you have. At the bottom of the Planner page, press >Options & 'yellow' Recorded button, and delete all failed and unwanted material. Additionally, a Planner Rebuild seems to be required. Press Services, then 4, then 0, 1, &Select. Go to Sky+ Planner Rebuild, and press Select. The rebuild takes seconds only, and will leave your box in standby. Wait a couple of minutes, then switch on. Occasionally a Planner Rebuild will 'hang' for minutes on end, if this happens, switch off and try again. The Planner Rebuild does not delete existing or planned recordings

Re: Sky+ Playback & Recording Problems

Thanks for the replies. The only wireless equipment in the same room is my laptop. The problem persists, even when we switch off our wireless network. We also have plenty of free space on our disc. I tried an update of the system software, that didn't help either!

Am thinking of upgrading to Sky+HD so would get a new box etc.

Did you try the Planner Rebuild? A software update is a different process. Or maybe you've done both.

      Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Have tried to followyour instructions. However, when I Go to 'Services', then 4, I do not have the option of pressing 0. The system setup has options from 1 thru to 8.

I have tried every menu option available and there is absolutely no reference to Planner rebuild etc etc.

Just because there is no 'Option 0' on the screen doesn't mean you don't have the option to press the '0' button.
Press Services followed by 4 followed by 0 followed by 1 followed by Select.
If it helps don't look at the screen.

      Good luck.

Lol, yeah, the 0 and 1 bit don't show on the screen. It's not until you press Select that you finally enter the hidden menu - The Installers Setup. Then select Option 7 for the Planner Rebuild.

Well to be fair, it's hidden for a reason, you wouldn't want anyone just messing with some of the settings in there.

I have two kids and know what they can do with a remote control and a bit of time
