@MartinP: Your advice has sunk to a new LOW.
You're company's advice to solder the centre core wire to the pin is unsuitable for most people. It requires a degree of competency in soldering otherwise all the plastic will become melted and the parts will become unusable.
As to why you gave stuck a link on describing connecting a F-Plug connector from your company's archives is really beyond me. F-Plug connectors are for Satellite LNB cable, not TV Aerial coax.
I guess that the sunshine in Greece is getting too much for you.

That's nothing scubbie...on moneysavingexpert.com forum, there was a post from someone complaining that his portable CRT tv wasn't working. Most people sensibly said "replace with LCD, cheap as as chips at that size"....but one guy said to get the soldering iron out !

Ouch!
...better make sure that the mattress is behind where the person is working if they intend to do that. Those tubes pack a good wallop if you touch the wrong capacitors.
In fairness it was interesting watching The Gadget Show last night. They talked about the advice given 7 years ago for a 40" Plasma Screen costing £2k, which was to leave it at that time and stick with CRT TVs.
At that time it was good advice and since LED & LCD TVs have hit the high street & plasmas have improved. Also the price has dropped significantly.

Re: magic eye not working
When I upgraded to a 40" HD TV earlier this year, I moved the 28" CRT TV to the bedroom. So I can't see anything wrong with that.
I gave my older TV away to someone who needed a TV, since sadly CRT TVs don't have much value on the 2nd hand market any more.
It didn't have Freeview built-in so they just needed to purchase a Freeview STB.

We provide specific instructions for DIY plug fitting:-
How to fit a male IEC TV plug to double-screened cable
Not a single customer has complained that he melted the plug insulator.
However, please read about ordinary TV plugs and their unsuitability for UHF:-
Review
'F' plugs are used for TV throughout America - for a good reason.
Clearly there are plenty of people who can solder, as we've sold thousands of capacitor kits and hundreds of TV plugs in the last three years.
For those who can't solder and have no time to learn (or are disabled and unable) there are leads available with plugs already fitted:-
F plugs and TV leads connectors
Obviously I recommend DIY where possible because you'll save money. We're not still in business, after 17 years, because we rip people off or sell something we think they don't need. Plenty of customers will attest to the fact that I've recommended NOT buying certain items from us.
