Rude installation guy and and unhappy install SKY +

      Hi all

just a quick swipe at sky installation service

I recently upgraded to sky + meaning I had to have a second wire run from the satellite and sky + box. After the first installer refused to fit my new upgrade sky said i had to have the special height team come around fine I said. Sky said it should be 2 people who will secure the ladder to my house for safety. Anyway on the day of the installation 1 guy turns up on his own and again refuse to the job saying no way, at this point i said fine i will tell sky to send another person, anyway after he had a good swear at me saying that i am taking the **** he decided to do the install while i held the ladder. While installing the second cable he could not be bothered to tack the wire to the house and just left a huge pile of wires all over the garden loose installed and the went off

Should I complain or should i just leave it.

      Thanks

      Sav

      Complain.

At the very least, unsecured wires will lead to an early failure (as well as looking untidy). The installer is paid by Sky to do a job to set standards which haven't been met. If you don't tell Sky then they can't do anything about it as they won't know.

I had a similar problem, First 2 installers refused to enter loft to fit the second cable, which had been fitted by the firm who sitted my flat screen TV.
Second lot were not any better and also refused. So after more frustration and long phone calls to Sky, a third set of installers were due yesterday (sunday) the were up in the loft in no time had the cable fixed and the system working perfectly in under 30 minutes. These installers also called the other installers "cowboys", who gave fitters like them a bad name.

Yes complain, send it by registered post. I posted mine on Saturday 27th and received a call from customer service department this afternoon, offering one month free worth 57. I did also say they should not use the first outfit, but was advised that was not his department, but hopefully if enough people do complain, they will get the message.

Have never had a correct/tidy installation first time yet, every time they have installed upgraded my cabling have had to have someone out to finish the job correctly.

re: Rude installation guy and and unhappy install SKY +

Had my installation done yesterday. Previously the cable went up the back of the house, up the apex at the side of the house, along the front and down the front wall.
The new installation for sky+ goes up the rear of the house, it then goes diaganally over the roof (front and rear) and then down the front of the house. To me it just look awful with a the cable diagonally over the roof, it stands out a mile.
Am I being too fussy or should I complain.
      Cheers.

re: Rude installation guy and and unhappy install SKY +

The guy that upgraded me to multi room and sky+HD left old wire hanging down on the wall, he also left cable on the footpath at the front of the house, and "cleats" ( what they knock in the wall to hold the cable) with nails in them all over the garden. I was at work at the time, my wife was at home. I came in from work and saw the mess he had left and said to my wife "If i did that at work, I would be sacked" ( I work for B.T) My wife wanted to report him but i said no, I will tidy it up and sort it out ( because i did not want the guy to get the shove) But i know that with his workmanship he will get fired in the end! But the crazy thing is, he lives just around the corner from me! wouldn't you think he would have done a decent job as i bump into him every now and then!

Again, complain, I cant understand how anyone can endorse a cable that runs over the roof. Its not clipped and is bound to move around in the wind and will eventually wear thru giving problems. You may have to pay for extra cable but to me thats better than having the cable flapping around.

Re: Rude installation guy and and unhappy install SKY +

When I first upgraded to Sky+ the guy said he would have to
stand on the roof of my neighbour's new extension to reach the dish.
I sent him away. He obviously did not want to do the job.
The new engineer said that the original guy was talking nonsense.
He went up a ladder. No problem.

      Sky want your business. Complain.

Re: Rude installation guy and and unhappy install SKY +

I watched the following farce at my neighbours house
on the opposite side of the road.
The "engineer" wanted to stick the dish on the front of
the house. Easy for him , but an eyesore.
She wanted it on the side of the house.

To my neighbours credit she was on the phone to Sky nonstop.
It took THREE vans, but she eventually got her way.
