Sorry should have done a search before posting. Last post of the above thread is quite old. Anyone have any updates as to whether this a wide spread problem or not?

Re: Sound Level on Sky Movies
Humfer, I've noticed exactly the same problem - Sky Movies sound levels are so low I need to raise the tv sound level almost to its maximum.
I dont think there's anything we can do because I found this very enlightening technical explanation on the following webpage:
Sound Levels on Sky Movies
I can't say how old the above information is, but it seems to explain what's happening to us.
Happy listening (or ear tuning).

Re: Sound Level on Sky Movies
Reddwarfcrew, I'd be very pleased if there is software that can correct this sound levels problem. I had my new Sky+ box installed around 15 November, 2008, so could this software upgrade be more recent than that? If so, could you advise me how do I go about collecting the necessary software upgrade?
Many thanks

Re: Sound Level on Sky Movies
Yep I think it was very very recent (ie end Nov/start Dec).... although it may have only been on HD I cant remember now. To force a software upgrade:
- have sky box set to be wtached via scart on tv
- pull power from mains on sky box
- hold down BACKUP button on front of sky box
- power back on at mains (still holding backup button
- wait for software upgrade message to appear on screen and release backup button
- wait for box to auto reboot

Re: Sound Level on Sky Movies
Watched one of my favourite movies AGAIN yesterday.
The Truman Show in HD.
Picture was brilliant compared to my DVD copy.
But the sound was inaudible at a critical point of the story.
So I hope it wasn't your first time viewing.
Or that you were watching "Your country needs you".
I am always amazed how The Truman Show predicted
the rise and rise of dreadful reality shows.

Re: Sound Level on Sky Movies
I thought that the channels that broadcasted in surround sound were always a bit quieter anyways, with Channel 4 HD being the worst.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Re: Sound Level on Sky Movies
Thanks reddwarfcrew for the the steps to install the upgrade software. One important question before I start: will I lose any recordings already on my hard disc or any series links that I've set up? Thought I'd better ask before I venture!
