Sky link dead
My sky link has died, it has been playing up for a few weeks but finally died today, the lights are working on all the magic eyes but I cant control the sky+ box. I have tried connecting a magic eye directly to the sky+ box and it still dose not work so the fault is with the Sky+ box and not the link's of the distributor in the loft. Dose anyone know if this is an expensive problem to fix?

Re: Sky link dead
Power down the box for a few minutes and then plug it back in.
You could also check in the engineers menu that the RF2 power is still on.
Failing that it's a new receiver.

Re: Sky link dead
Are all of your Sky TV Links similarly affected?
There are many potential reasons for TV Links to fail to work and most are nothing to do with the Sky+ box being faulty although this is possible.
Silly point but can you confirm that the feed to your amplifier is connected to the RF2 outlet and not RF1? Only RF2 has the requisite 9v signal.
See the pdf on this page http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/tvlink2.htm for some useful suggestions.
Before I called Sky I would ask a friend or neighbour if I could borrow a known good sky box to test my setup with. I had a problem once where my kids had pulled the wire out and it took me much pulled hair before I found that the magic eye had been put back the wrong way round. There is an arrow to tell you which way the signal should pass but it is in black on a black background - It doesn't work when connected the wrong way round!
If it all works with the known good box (having checked that the RF2 9v output is turned on in the setup menu first) and doesn't work with your box then Sky will swap out the box for £65 if it is out of Warranttee. As long as the box is faulty then the cost should be nothing if you are within the first 12 months.
Best of luck.

Re: Sky link dead
I have tried all the normal stuff,
Power off for 10 Min's then back on nothing
Forced update nothing
Checked all the wiring and menu's, nothing
The red light is on on all the sky links and I have picture & sound but no response from any remote.
Its going to the local engineer after Xmas but he said it doesn't sound hopeful, so it looks like a new receiver. Ebay here I come.

Re: Sky link dead
Pull the aerial input out of the receiver and try without it, also put one of the magic eyes directly into the back of RF2 to test.
I have seen cases where the aerial cable is picking up interference which causes the magic eyes to seem to work but not.
A direct link to the back of the receiver with the aerial feed out should prove if it's the receiver or the setup. (remember you will have to cover the IR on the receiver when you test it)
