      Odd Message

Last night I wanted to record the Merchant of Venice on BBC2, I had my Sky digibox set on BBC2 and the DVD recorder came on at the correct start time however at 11:46pm a message came on the screen as follows:-

"Your Digibox is about to go into standby mode"

I can't under what was going on, can any explain?

      Thanks

      Re: Odd Message

Its the autostandby kicking in at 1am.

      http://www.jointhebiggerpicture.com/...toStandby.aspx

      How auto standby works
Auto standby monitors whether people are using the Sky+ or Sky HD box overnight between 11pm and 3.30am. If the box hasn't been used for a period of two hours after 11pm, an ‘Auto Standby' message will pop up on screen for three minutes. If there's no further use the box will go into Standby mode automatically, until the customer turns it back on.

You can disable it within the Services menu.

      *You said:

      switch off autostandby

      Sky says:

If you regularly watch TV in the early hours of the morning it is possible to switch off Auto Standby by using an option in the ‘Settings’ menu of the Sky Guide. From there go to ‘Services’, ‘5 – Sky+ Setup’, ‘Auto-Standby’ and then set to ‘Off’

      Re: Odd Message

Many thanks as always. I wish Sky would tell me about these things

Luckily I have a Freeview PVR so as a precaution I recorded it onto this just in case something went wrong...which it did!

So if I had been watching the film and not recording it would I have had to of overridden the message that popped up?

Even if the receiver went into standby it would still reciord the program, You can record as normal in standby, two channels at a time.

It seems that Sky are getting a bit green as Auto Standy has now made an apperance on my old Pace standard Sky Box.

The recording was being done on a DVD recorder not Sky+ which is why it all went pear shaped.

Sky did tell people about it, it was in the Sky mag and also on adverts on the telly to let people know when it was first introduced.

      Re: Odd Message

I've just got a normal digibox until I get Sky+HD installed in January. As for the Sky mag they just go straight into the paper recycling bag, perhaps I should read them in future!

      Re: Odd Message

you'll be fine once you have your sky+hd as that will continue to record whilst in standby.

The DVDR is recording the output signal (ie what you are watching on the telly), so when the box goes into standby, it stops outputting a viewing signal.
