UK Sky TV Card in Ireland

      Hi,

Ive just moved into a new house. The house came fitted with a sky+ box + dish. Obviously there was no card in the box. My housemate who use to live in UK found an old card he had whilst living in the UK. We put it in for the craic and it worked. The account on the card is long cancelled however we have movies sports basically a full package.

Can anyone explain this. Also who is getting billed for this. Dont want some1 else paying for our usage. Is it the previous tenants or is their account stored on their card?

Sorry if this has been asked before
      SK

What happens if you take the card out of the box?
In the UK, access to the package you pay for would be set when you pair a card with a box which you do by calling Sky. If you haven't done this then all you should get are the free channels. There are some free sports and movie channels (at least there are on UK Sky) so could that be the explanation? If you get Sky Movies or Sky Sports then you are obtaining services.

Does Sky+ work (ie can you record?). If it doesn't then that is further evidence.

      Post back the results.

      Sky Plus works.

I have all sports and all movie channels. THe previous tenants have moved house and perhaps did not cancel their service???? Any other thoughts..

Are the account settings on the card? or the box?

Does everything work without the card then?

Account setings in the UK are on the card or even if they were stored on the box, they wouldn't work with the card missing. I have no direct experience of the Irish version but understood from other forum members that it was mostly identical. In the UK Sky+ would definitely not work without the card. I guess it is theoretically possible that the box might have been hacked to give you the full package without a subscription card but I haven't heard of that being possible in the UK.

I think if I were you I'd keep it under my hat!
