*FIXED* Problem with 3 year old Sky +

I have had my Sky+ (Pace) For over three years, It was upgraded in the first couple of months to a Maxtor QuickView 160Gb drive that has worked flawlessley.

Over the Weekend I had 2 techincal Failure 12 errors (failed recordings) and since then when fast forwarding, changing channels etc Via RF2 Sky link system I am getting a poping sound through the speakers. The feed is to two different rooms and both sets are getting the same issue.

Everything else seems to be normal and the box is functioning as expected.

Is this the first signs of impending doom?

Stupidly I did two things at once so I am unsure which fixed it!

I left the box disconnected from the mains for about six hours and then forced an update.

problem has gone away for now...

Re: Problem with 3 year old Sky +

I can sympathize, we had a 30 second power cut on Monday night which knocked everything out including the Sky+ box. I did the backup button thing about 5 times with no luck and went to bed in disgust. Got up Tuesday tried the backup button another couple of times, with no result, so I decided to search the web for a solution. After about an hour of searching I was about to give up and order an HD box when I heard the Sky News music coming out of the lounge. My wife had come in, picked up the remote and pressed the Sky button and there it was, she didn't even know I couldn't get it to work. She is a real technophobe and can hardly change the channel, but now there is no living with her.

I am still seriously thinking of HD though, the present offer seems too good to refuse.
