Sky with a DVD player / Hard Disk recorder
Hello!
My DVD player recently conked out, and I want to replace it. I see that there are a number of machines on the market that play DVDs but also have hard disks built in so you can record programs to watch later.
However, they also seem to come with TV tuners built in, which presumably I wouldn't want.
So I have a number of questions:
1. Is there a Sky+ box out there that has a built in DVD player? Essentially this is what I want, as I don't want a DVD player and a separate hard disk recorder.
2. If I have to go the DVD / Hard Disk player router, will the tv tuner get in the way? Or can I just connect it to the Sky box?
Sorry if this is vague, but my skills are all elsewhere, and I am a bit clueless here.

Re: Sky with a DVD player / Hard Disk recorder
1. Not that I know of.
2. The TV tuner will be for reception of digital terrestrial tv (Freeview) from your rooftop aerial (if you have got one), so you can just ignore it - it just gives you an alternative source of content to record from.
I've got a Sony RDR-HXD560 which is a couple of years old now. It is a DVD recorder and an HDD recorder. It records the Freeview signal from my rooftop aerial to either DVD or HDD as I choose.
It can also record from my Sky box, but I don't use that facility as I have got an ancient TiVo for that job
TiVo? Think Sky+ but with the ability to manage Season Passes and create Wishlists...Last edited by speedyrite; 07-09-08 at 10:37 AM.

Re: Sky with a DVD player / Hard Disk recorder
You really should go the Sky+ route. That gives you the ability to record to the Sky+ HDD using the Sky Planner, and believe me that is the simplest way. If you really want to then record onto another medium you will need a free standing recorder. I have a Sky+ box and also a Samsung HDD/DVD recorder. If I want to archive material I simply copy from the Sky+ to the Samsung (either HDD or DVD).
The Sky Planner is simply the best route to recording and playing back programmes. It's so simple even my wife can use it (and that makes it a first for any technical product).
