If you enter into a contract for the provision of a service, and then later you decide that you do not want it, Sky would be within their rights to insist that you pay for the minimum contract period (prob 12 months) or return any equipment (the HD box).
There may have been a "cooling off" period in the contract, but as you have had the box for 17 days, you have prob gone over this.

I may be wrong but with the HD side of it, I am sure you have 30 days to cancel the HD subscription from start of contract. Have a read of the letters they send you, I am sure it is mentioned in there.

If not, you may be best ringing Sky for a definitive answer.

if you do downgrade though - you most likeley will lose your 1/2 price bonus.. as the package would have to be reset - i'm also sure in the contract that if you take HD, you have to keep for a minimum of 12months before you downgrade the HD part.
