Second Hand Boxes

Hi,
I am sure thuis has been asked before, but thought I would ask any way.

My Sky box is around 1 yr old, I did get the insurance thing come through, but why pay @ £100 when sky will come out for @£75? Thing is shy might take 3 days.
So I was thinking about getting a second han box, someone at work is selling a Grundig Sky + box, (I have Sky + already. but just in case it breaks down) the advert says its 40gb mabe 60, comes with manuals etc £40, are Grundig OK, anything I need to ask, Is there more than 1 version.

Is it worth putting this as a sticky?

Grundig do not supply current Sky+ boxes, the latest ones are from Pace, Amstrad and Thompson. Old boxes will not be compatible with Sky anytime.
The disk capacity of the current boxes is 160Gb, all though you only have 80gb of personal storage.
£40 sounds a bit steep to me.

Do Sky sell refurb \ second hand boxes so that I can store one in case mine goes wrong?

I think you get one if you call them out to repair your faulty box.

I would say that the risk of it going wrong are fairly slim, although they do go wrong. Normally when you call Sky out, they arrive within a couple of days. If your box is out of warranty, I think the cost is £65 but they will swap the broken one for a refurbished one. Which is probably about the same as a second hand one anyway. Plus you would then get a 3 month warranty with that as well iirc

Most of the independent repairers sell refurbished digiboxes. It's not unusual for a customer to send a box for repair, refuse the estimate and forfeit the box to avoid paying the return carriage charge.
