HD and Multiroom
Hi.
I've got Sky HD and was thinking of going to multi-room. Firstly, can I get another Sky HD box in the other room? If so, do I have to pay the ten pounds HD subscription again (as well as the multi-room subscription)?
Cheers,
kan

Re: HD and Multiroom
Yes - Multiroom subscription doesn't extend to HD at the moment. You would need an additional HD subscription to get HD in both rooms. I know this from personal experience. I can only hope that in time the HD subscription gets built into the main package as Sky+ does now. Rip off - You betcha.

Re: HD and Multiroom
the hd subscription will end once the hd boxes become more popular the same as happened with the sky+ subscription
sky are only trying to get some of the initial investment in the new technology back
the standard sky boxes will also dissappear and sky+ boxes will become standard once hd has a bigger take-up

Re: HD and Multiroom
Doesn't seem to make sense to me, if you want people to take up HD then it should be made more accessible, they should drop the charge. I only went to sky+ because they dropped the monthly charge on it, I reckon more people would go to HD if they dropped that charge.
With regards to multiroom, how can they charge me 10 quid again?!?? it's not fair!

Re: HD and Multiroom
It doesn't make sense to you as you aren't subsidising the boxes. Sky lose money on every box, even ones sold at £300. Its fair if you want it. Don't want to pay, then don't get it, perfectly fair.
With new boxes coming from a few other manufacturers then maybe costs will start to come down.

Re: HD and Multiroom
My guess is that with Freesat HD boxes starting to appear and with production of Sky HD boxes now starting to be spead amongst the usual suspects (eg Pace and Amstrad) it won't be so long before both the Subsidy paid by Sky won't need to be so high and the commercial reality of having to charge extra for HD won't be there either.
Until then we are stuck with additional costs for HD as we used to be for Sky+

Re: HD and Multiroom
Knew there was another manufacturer alongside Pace and Thompson; just assumed it was Amstrad. Have Samsung ever made Sky equipment before?
