sky + upgrade

hey guys

quick question

ive got a normal amstrad sky box which ive had since dec 07 and i pay 35 quid a month and i was just wondering how much will it cost to upgrade my box to sky +?

well you can do a self install and get the kit off ebay or log into your MYSKY account and click the upgrade package link to find the cost thru sky (the cost depends on what options you choose etc).

same package just want a sky + box as im fed up with missing shows when they clash

and i thought standard sky and sky + installation was diff!

As i stated, you can upgrade your sky to sky+ yourself by getting it off ebay and installing yourself (including getting up a ladder and replacing the lnb) or you can order the sky+ box with installation thru MySky and clicking on the upgrade package link (you dont have to change viewing package to upgrade your package!). Sky have different charges depending on what you choose, so you'll have to log on and check what the price is for you.

So, to be clear, you need to:

a) look on ebay for the sky+ box of your choice, quad lnb and cabling and work out the cost
b) log into your mysky account and check how much it costs to do it thru sky

then also consider

c) are you happy to get up a ladder and install the new lnb etc etc
d) are you happy to not have any warranty on the box

Once you have done some research you will know what the best option is for YOU.

Dont know what the cost via mysky would be, guess at least a ton ?
I was lucky to be given a box from a relative who emigrated, the lnb cost me £7 and the cable (20m) £15 off ebay - sorted
And i used the ladders that the cavity wall insulaters had up when they were doin that

well just checked on mysky it would cost 159 and on ebay roughly 80 for a box so by the time ive got the stuff would of been better to get a sky guy out!!

i think ill wait for them to drop it!

159 is bit steep!!

and im not good with ladders with previous experiences!!

or are they different on sky +?

okay. based on the questions you are asking, i recommend you buy thru sky.

If you want to use the sky+ functionality (ie record, pause, rewind), then you need a twin or quad lnb.

Yes, I agree with red above, however if you do buy a box off ebay you can connect it to your existing dish and cable, you just wont be able to watch, record more than the 1 channel. Thats what I did for a couple of months until the weather got better and I went out and changed the lnb and cable. The functionality is still there but just for the 1 channel.
