      SKY+ Box help

      Hi, Firstly hello to everybody.
      I have had my sky+ box for just over 2years and now it seems to have broken. Recently it would not play certain saved recordings and now the box is permanently in standby (red light). It does make a noise as if trying to boot up but then consistently cuts off so i'm thinking the HDD may have gone, not sure tho?

      If i call sky and they send an engineer would i be looking at paying just the 65 call out fee and they will replace/repair the box for free or would i be expected to pay for a replacement box?

      Or if anybody has any other suggestions?

      Hi, thanks for the reply.
      Sorry, should have said really that I have already tried unplugging the box (which has worked in the past when sky has froze) However, it hasn't worked this time and i have even left the box unplugged over night and still no joy

      You might have to get a replacement box then but sky might try to charge you.

      That's what i was wary of. Out of curiosity if I was to purchase a replacement HDD do you know how much that would cost.
      Also do you think it would be cheaper to just purchase a 2nd hand box from somewhere like ebay (though i am a bit sceptical about that)

      I am not to sure about that now i really do not know much about the tv side of things but i will try and get somebody who does to help you.

      Kealey,From a ex-engineers point of view,replacing the HD would be a waste of money.Your box is buggered.The same happened to mine.

      Ok thanks for your view, what would you recommend then. As i am out of warranty would i be charged for a new box and engineer call out or should i try to buy a new box myself.

      provided you haven't messed with the box or the installation and you are a current subscriber, then the 65 service call fee should be flat, i.e. any equipment will be replaced as required with second hand equivalents
